Nonlinearity in the load deformation diagram also starts beyond that load. As the loading increases the bond cracks increase. Vertical matrix cracks originate predominantly from these bond cracks and propagate vertically with increased load (Figure 1d). Cracks also originate in the matrix under increased loads. Cracks continue to propagate vertically in the matrix until close to peak load.
